VCN partners, allies, and friends –

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the 2nd annual Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week, a series of events, activities, and educational programs designed to raise awareness of the importance of the Chesapeake Bay to the Commonwealth, the region, and the United States.

There is A LOT going on, and we encourage you to participate in every way that you’re able to! Our top three suggestions for participation are below:

  1. Attend Back to the Bay on Saturday, June 10th at Mason Neck State Park. This is a free, family-friendly event and will include educational activities, live music, and food trucks. For more information, check out Delegate Bulova and Delegate Lingamfelter’s commentary on the event.
  2. Promote Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week through your organizations’ social media accounts. Choose Clean Water Coalition has taken the lead in designating themes for each day of Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week. Click here to access the Dropbox folder with suggested posts and graphics to share with your followers.
  3. Encourage your members/supporters to attend events happening near you. To access the full calendar of events, click here.

In 2016, the Chesapeake Bay Commission championed the notion of designating the second week of June as Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week. Legislation established the special week was enacted in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The designation encourages all Virginians “to commemorate Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week with events, activities, and educational programs designed to raise awareness of the importance of the Chesapeake Bay to the Commonwealth, the region, and the United States.”

This week of events is a collective effort between Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania to raise Bay awareness. If you have any questions about events happening or how to get involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
